Known Geothermal Resource Areas
Merged dataset created by NREL from datasets at the University of Nevada: Reno and the Idaho Department of Water Resources. Idaho: This layer was created in order to provide an up-to-date and accurate listing of wells and springs in Idaho that have water temperatures that reflect geothermal sources. The coverage is the result of compiling several databases that contained geothermal resources in Idaho. The initial database was produced by John Mitchell, Linda Johnson, and John Anderson, and published in the Idaho Department of Water Resources Water Information Bulletin No. 30, Part 9, Geothermal Investigation in Idaho - Potential for Direct Heat Application of Geothermal Resources in June 1980. A 1:500000 map was included with that publication. The creation of this current coverage was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy through their GeoPowering the West Program. University of Nevada Reno: This spatial information was derived from a variety of sources. Care was taken in the creation of these themes but they are provided as is.
